From November 6th to 17th, Bonn will host the 23rd COP (Conference of Parties), the global annual climate summit. The Conference will be under the presidency of Fiji, an island state that is amongst those that is already today affected by climate change. This underlines the importance of action on climate protection – both at the Conference and within Civil Society.
We as the Greens of Bonn want to show presence during the COP out on the streets and get into a conversation with the population about the importance of climate protection. Some of our planned activities include:
- booths in the city center on all Saturdays during the conference
- a brochure with information about climate protection
- evening events
- support of the climate demonstrations on 4th and 11th of November
- an article series which shall explore climate change issues from the perspective of different countries
Of course, we are particularly excited to welcome and host all GREEN activists from all over the world coming to Bonn, whether they come as delegates to the conference or as participants in one of the many side events and protests. Please be aware that Bonn is a small town and accommodation is scarce. We urge all GREEN friends to book their accommodation as soon as possible.
If you are from any GREEN group anywhere in the world and would like to point us to your planned activity during COP, or ask our support, please contact us at COP23@gruene-bonn.de. There are already a few international events planned – such as cycling trips from Brussels and many other cities to Bonn. Please get in touch if you are planning something similar so we can try to connect you.
Please also be aware of the possibility to sign up to the Global Greens e-mail newsletter, which will spread logistical information as well as political evaluation of the negotiations during COP23. The Global Greens will also prepare a calendar of events that will provide an overview over Green events during the conference.
